Article: St. David’s Preschool Founder Maryann Crins Farewell
|
St. David's Playschool began over 40 years ago with two teachers and eighteen students. Head teacher MaryAnn Crins and assistant teacher Jan Hagan founded the school in 1976.
At that time, the supervision of St. David’s Playschool fell under the directorship of Rev. Pastor Ruess and the Playschool Committee of St. David's on-the- Hill Episcopal Church. Over the years, MaryAnn Crins became the owner, director and served as a lead teacher until her retirement in June of 2015. She was a dedicated professional who put her heart and soul into making St. David's the premiere school it is today. Mrs. Crins was a nurturing and caring individual who always put student and staff interests and needs ahead of her own. The school flourished under her guidance and direction. In September of 2015, soon after her retirement, Mrs. Crins passed away due to illness. In honor of her years of leadership and passion for educating young children, in May of 2015, in loving memory, the school was officially dedicated to this special educator. Although difficult to fill Mrs. Crins shoes, St. David's day school is reinventing itself and building on her legacy. A change in the school's name from "playschool" to "preschool" reflects the advancements made in the school's structure, learning environment, programs and standards based curriculum. However, as early childhood education has evolved and changed over the years, the one thing that remains constant is the personal, nurturing, and educational environment that Mrs. Crins established. God bless! |
